Samara region
Samara region is a federal subject of Russian Federation located in the Volga Federal District. With the population of 3 169 800 persons (2009) it is a large industrial and cultural center of the Middle Volga.
Samara Region is situated in one of the most beautiful places of Russia. It is located on the Russian Plain, on the border of three natural zones - forest, steppe and forest-steppe. Such geographic location determines a varied wild landscape with a lot of forests, lakes, rivers and fields.
Samara Region borders on Saratov Region (Lower Volga) in the south, Ulyanovsk Region (Volga region) in the west, Tatarstan in the north, and Orenburg Region (Ural region) in the east. Major part of population lives in four biggest cities - Samara, Togliatti, Syzran and Novokuibyshevsk. The administrative center of the region is the city of Samara.
